Keeping Your Lawn Green This Summer

Today, we’ll give you tips on how to keep your lawn green throughout the summer season.

Any homeowner will want to have a beautiful lawn. Perhaps, however, you’re finding that it’s difficult to keep your grass the beautiful green color that you want. That’s why, today, we’ll give you tips on how to keep your lawn green throughout the summer season.

Keep Up With Watering

Grass, like flowers, requires water in order to thrive. Watering your grass should be a year-round chore, and you’ll typically want your grass to get between 1 and 1.5 inches of water every week. In the summer, however, you’ll need to provide more water because summer brings intense heat, which means some water could evaporate before it has the chance to be absorbed by the grass. Also, make sure to factor rain into the amount of water your lawn gets. If the weather is particularly rainy one week, you won’t have to do as much watering on your own. Lastly, pick the right time of day to get your grass watered. We suggest getting watering done every couple of days, and you should do it early in the morning. This allows the grass to absorb the water before the hottest parts of the day.

Keep Your Grass at the Ideal Height

A misunderstanding with lawn care is that cutting your grass short is the best way to keep it green. While it’s important to not let grass get too tall, you should only cut about ⅓ of the length of your grass blades each time you get mowing done. When your grass stays tall, it helps the roots grow. Also, during summer, the extra grass height will protect your soil from direct sunlight exposure. This keeps your soil cool, while also preventing more water from evaporating before the roots can absorb it.

Make Sure Your Lawn Stays Clean

If your lawn is dirty, it will have a tougher time staying green. That’s why it’s important to pick up anything that’s left on your grass so that your lawn can stay healthy. Perhaps you’re picking up after your pets. Maybe you have children who left toys on the grass. When your lawn stays clean, it can stay green.
