Mulching Tips You Should Consider Using

Today, we’re going to go over some tips that can help you when mulching your yard.

Mulch is a wonderful resource for your landscape. It provides insulation that helps to regulate your soil’s temperature, and it helps to retain moisture as well. Did you know, however, that there are right and wrong manners in which to perform mulching? Since mulch is often seen as a resource that does nothing but good for your landscape, it’s easy to believe that you can’t go wrong when applying it to your landscape, but this is not the case. Today, we’re going to go over some tips that can help you when mulching your yard.

Use the Right Amount of Mulch

While mulch is widely known for having nothing but good properties, there is such a thing as using too much. Generally, you’ll want to use roughly three inches of mulch when applying it to a flower bed.

Using more than this amount can open your flower bed up to problems. The main problem is that your garden could become waterlogged. This is because mulch has water-retaining properties, so if you have too much, you’ll actually retain too much water. An excess of water is what allows fungi and diseases to develop.

Use Mulch to Keep Your Drip Irrigation Covered

If you have a drip irrigation system, you should use mulch to keep the tubing of your system covered. This just helps your yard look neater and more aesthetically pleasing, as the tubes of your irrigation system can be seen as an eyesore.

With that said, you don’t want to put too much mulch over your irrigation system. You only need to add enough mulch so that the pipes can’t be seen. Anything beyond that is unnecessary.

Consult a Landscaping Company to Determine What Type of Mulch to Use

There are different types of mulches you could use for your landscape. To ensure your yard gets optimal nutrition, you want to pick the mulch that’s best for your soil. A landscaping company, with their years of experience in mulching, should know precisely what kind of mulch to apply to keep your yard in peak condition.
