Patio Maintenance Tips for the Rest of Winter

Here are patio maintenance tips that will be helpful for the rest of the winter season.

The winter cold can be quite intense, and its effect can be felt all throughout your outdoor landscape, which includes any patio you have around your yard. It’s important to stay on top of patio maintenance so that it makes it through the rest of winter. That way, your patio will be ready to enjoy once the warm spring weather starts to arise. Here are patio maintenance tips that will be helpful for the rest of the winter season.

Keep Your Patio Furniture Protected

If you want to help your patio furniture last longer, part of your winter patio maintenance routine should include keeping this furniture protected. Consider placing weather-resistant covers on any patio furniture you have. If you have any lightweight furniture, you could even bring that furniture back inside your house for added protection.

Make Sure Your Patio is Sealed and Waterproofed

A big step towards getting your patio ready for winter includes making sure that your patio is sealed and waterproofed. Make sure you find a good sealant to apply to your patio so that moisture can’t penetrate into the cracks in your patio. Moisture from snow can cause cracks to form in your patio, as well as discoloration and frost damage. Even after you’ve applied sealant to your patio, you want to inspect the sealant to make sure it’s still intact. If it’s not intact, make sure to apply another coat of sealant to reinforce your patio.

Remove Ice and Snow From Your Patio

Just like how we remove leaves from our patios during fall, you also want to remove snow and ice from your patio during winter. If snow and ice are allowed to pile up on your patio, it can start to accumulate over time and give your patio extra stress.

When you start the snow removal process, you don’t want to use any metal tools because these can end up scratching your patio’s surface, which makes your patio look worse. Instead, stick with either a snow blower or a snow shovel. You can also use pet-safe ice melt products on your patio’s surface in order to make the surface less slippery.
