Ways to Decorate Your Yard for Halloween
It’s October! You know what that means; Halloween is rapidly approaching and we’re all scrambling to get ready. There are so many different ways to decorate your yard for Halloween, too. You can go cute, quaint, and festive, to scary and truly terrifying. Thankfully, there’s still enough time for you to think about ways to take your yard to the heights you want once trick-or-treaters come around.
Get ready for the spookiest time of the year. These ideas should spark some creativity and help you decorate your yard for Halloween!
Front Yard
For anyone expecting visitors, guests, and trick-or-treaters, your front yard should be the star of the show. You want it to feel welcoming even if it’s otherwise scary! There are plenty of ways to do this, from signage to brightly covered lights. One fun idea is to make DIY ghosts out of balloons and gauze or extra sheets—these can then be hung from trees for a friendly but scary approach.
Another fun idea? Go big with the jack-o-lanterns. Huddle a bunch together, and maybe even some regular pumpkins or painted ones, to make a big group that signals you’re ready for Halloween. Our last idea is to create ghostly spirit jugs out of milk cartons. Take some string lights, run them through a series of milk jugs, and paint fun ghost faces on each. Boo!
Porch and/or Patio
There are plenty of different ways to go here. We like to make the front porch or patio a centerpiece for a big monster; think putting big eyes and limbs around your front door to make it seem like you have to confront a giant monster to get candy! Alternatively, a giant spider web with a spooky spider is also a way to go.
If you want to go with something more classic and less scary, you can use colors primarily instead of specific decorations. That’s right: orange and black are the colors of Halloween, and they can easily be incorporated into your lawn setup. Use patio furniture, DIY wreaths, and of course you can’t forget about pumpkins.
Back Yard
Depending on the setup of your home or if you’re planning to host a Halloween party, you may want to consider decorating your backyard, too. You can go pretty simple here and it’ll still help set your home apart and make it look unique. Put skeleton hands on the edges of your garden hedges or fence, or just hang orange lights around your yard. You could even take a shed, garage, or gazebo on your property and turn it into a mini haunted house!
